History
For two days this September, the Standing on the Corner Festival enters its 24th year of celebrating the town and the music that made it famous. When Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey first penned the now-familiar lyrics to “Take It Easy,” there was no specific reason the duo chose Winslow, Arizona for their song. The rhythm of the words just fit easily into the beat.
But as travelers and music lovers made their way along Route 66, the town began to enjoy some notoriety from the Eagles’ tune. Folks stopped regularly to snap photos with the painted Route 66 sign on the Main Street intersection and anything with the word “Winslow” on it. The town decided to take it to the next level and commissioned a commemorative statue, a mural with the eponymous girl and Ford of the lyrics, and launched an annual music festival which now draws visitors from all over the world.
While the festival always delivers a fantastic lineup of live bands, 2023 brings a phenomenal list of talented musicians to the stage. Visitors will hear great groups like the Chris Kane Trio, The Dirt, Perfect Storm, and, of course, “Take It Easy.” You’ll hear covers and originals of foot stompin’ rock and roll and easygoing blues.
