A Mountain of Fun
The Arizona Snowbowl is truly tops when it comes to offering family winter fun, and we mean that literally. The Snowbowl is located on the western slope of Mount Humphreys, Arizona’s tallest point. At 13,922 feet, the mountain is a prominent feature of “The Peaks.” The San Francisco Peaks are remnants of a million-year-old dormant stratovolcano. From mid-November to approximately the end of April, visitors can ski over 777 acres as the area sees an average snowfall of 260 inches. There are also eight lifts to carry you up through the heights of a bluebird sky. The slopes are open daily, weather permitting, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Check in with Guest Services at The Hart Prairie Lodge to get you set up for a day of fun under the winter sun.
Fun is Child’s Play
One of the best things about the Arizona Snowbowl is kids can jump in on the fun for free! All children ages 12 and under can get a Power Kids Pass and ski totally free not only at the Snowbowl, but at all Power Pass resorts. This includes the Purgatory Resort and the Hesperus Ski Area in Durango, CO, the Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort in Taos, NM, the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area in Los Alamos, NM, the Brian Head Resort in Brian Head, UT, the Nordic Valley Ski Resort in Eden, UT, and the Spider Mountain Bike Park in Burnet, TX. If your kiddo prefers to bike ride, they can also bike free for a full year at Spider Mountain, too.
Appetite for Fun…and Food…and Shopping
With all this fun, attendees to the Arizona Balloon Classic are sure to work up an appetite. There is no shortage of choices for good food on hand to satisfy the whole family and all set to a soundtrack of great live music. Along with a beer garden, the owners of Piggly’s BBQ and Piggly’s Seafood will have a number of stations throughout the park. Retail vendors will be open during festival hours as well. Pick up a unique gift to commemorate your visit. The kids will love the Family Fun Zone, offering a variety of games and activities to keep the little ones entertained between balloon events.
On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever
Well, you can see Sedona and its red rocks, a volcanic field, and as far away as the Grand Canyon when you purchase a $29.00 round-trip gondola ticket. As you ride in your own cabin up 11,500 feet toward the peak, remember to bring your camera as the trip offers plenty of panoramic views. Tickets are limited each day and must be purchased in advance. The gondola’s hours of operation are from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
More Fun on “Tap”
If you worked up a thirst after a day shredding snow, you can get your apres ski on with the Tap Takeover at the Fremont Lodge’s 9500’ Bar. Taking place on Saturdays from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, visitors over the age of 21 can enjoy a variety of icy cold brews from a host of breweries. February breweries featured are the Bells Brewery on February 1st, Dos XX on February 8th, and Saint Archer on February 29th. Grab a pint and warm up next to a roaring fire and take in the sights as you unwind from a day of sun and fun on the slopes.
The Rhythm is Gonna Get You
If your pulse isn’t pounding yet, there’s still even more to enjoy at the Arizona Snowbowl. Two separate locations, the Hart Prairie Lodge deck and the Agassiz Lodge deck, feature toe-tapping tunes from live bands. DJ Fresh will appear at the Hart Prairie Lodge on February 5th and 10th from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM. The Flag Five will appear at the Agassiz Lodge on February 5th from 1:30 PM-4:30 PM.
Feel the Need…the Need for Speed
Watch the top guns of uphill racing at the 2022 GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill. This family-friendly race up the mountain encourages individuals or teams of four to snag their traction devices of choice and compete to be the first up the slopes. There will be multiple events including the Fun Climb, Midway Climb, and the Lumberyard Brewing Company Agassiz Climb. There will also be plenty of hot cocoa and room in the cheering section for fans of the event. And be sure not to miss the costume and dance contest!
So, don’t get left out in the cold. When visiting Zuni Village RV Park in Kingman, be sure not to miss the Arizona Snowbowl.
